What If Family Game Night Actually Got You Talking?

Someone pulls out a block.

Everyone holds their breath.

The tower wobbles.

DON’T MOVE.

The block comes out.

Cheers.

And then comes the question:

What is something you are grateful for about this group?

Suddenly, this isn’t your average board game. Becuase what if a game night could do more than just bring out everyone’s competitive’s side? What if it could get your family laughing, remembering, appreciating and actually talking to each other?

That’s the idea behind Breakthrough- a game that takes the familiar thrill of a block-stacking game and adds something families don’t always get enough of: meaningful conversations.

The idea behind the game is simple: pull a block, answer the question, and place it on top. Try not to bring the tower down!

With 60 prompt blocks across five categories, every turn offers a different way to connect:

Memories -  Explore shared stories that shape your family’s identity.

Understanding Each Other - Understand roles, perspectives, and how you support one another.

Appreciation -  Strengthen bonds through acknowledgment and validation.

Fun & Playful - Use humour and play to connect and ease tension.

Growth - Reflect, adapt and grow together as a family.

Asking, “Let's talk about our relationship” can feel awkward. So asking, “Want to play Breakthrough?” may be much easier.

That's what makes the game work. The prompts create an easy, playful opening for conversations that might otherwise never happen.

And there's no pressure to have the “right” answer.

You might laugh. You might learn something new. You might disagree about a shared memory. Or you might look at someone you've known your entire life and think:

“I never knew that about you.”

There are no winners or perfect answers. Just questions, conversations, a little friendly competition and a few moments where everyone forgets to check their phones.
